Summer Crafts & Feeding Babies | World Breastfeeding Week Continues!

Amber Nursing Baby On The Go in McAllen, TX

When Amber and I talked about taking this nursing session on the go, she mentioned to me that she hadn't quite tried the whole nursing and standing move. Well, she could have fooled me! We headed to the craft store (Amber is an amazing crafty mama) and as we checked out all the colorful glitter for her next project, she nursed baby Annabelle like a pro.

As a nursing mama myself, I always felt like carrying my baby's milk on me was kind of cool. I didn't have to worry about bottles and accessories. It was as simple as latching baby and continuing on my errands. (Many times that included babywearing because it freed up both of my hands.) Now breastfeeding isn't only convenient because we can easily just feed our baby on the go, there are so many benefits to breastmilk!

  • "Breast milk contains antibodies that help your baby fight off viruses and bacteria." - Web MD -- This reason alone is a winner in my book. Public places are filled with people. Where there are large groups of people, there is usually a good chance that viruses and germs are making their rounds.
  • Not only is breastfeeding helping your little one stay healthy and strong, it's also changing the way your own body works. "New mothers who choose to breastfeed help not only their babies: They could also be building healthier bones for themselves, according to a two-year study. Earlier research that questioned whether breastfeeding is the best option for women at risk for osteoporosis prompted the new study, published in the Journal of Nutrition, 2000 (vol. 130, pp. 777-783)."
  • "Children who were breastfed when they were babies perform better in school and score higher on standardized math and reading tests, a new study suggests. The study, published Monday in the January issue of Pediatrics, was based on a review of more than 1,000 children born in New Zealand in 1977 and followed through age 18."
